Stop Creating Drug War Victims

As you read this police are still arresting people for cannabis and government prosecutors are still trying to put people in jail for cannabis – even though it will be legal soon. This is not right. NORML Canada calls on the government to declare a cannabis prosecution moratorium now. A cannabis moratorium would mean all cannabis charges are dropped and nobody gets charged with new cannabis charges until we figure what the new rules are going to be. We understand it will take time to create a new regulatory regime, but while we are waiting, no more ruined lives. There should be no last soldier killed in this failed war.

Open Letter to Federal Health Minister Jane Philpott

Congratulations on your speech to the United Nations of April 20, 2016.

As Canada’s oldest drug policy reform organization, we commend you — and the government of Canada — for promising to end a tragic policy error; prohibition of cannabis.

Why are we still prosecuting marijuana use?

The Trudeau Liberals came to power on October 19 promising to legalize cannabis for personal use, undoing a policy error lingering from the early 20th Century.

NORML Canada – Government should declare a moratorium on marijuana arrests and prosecutions today:
Ottawa, Ontario — The federal government should instruct police forces and Crown Prosecutors across Canada immediately to halt all criminal investigations, charges and prosecutions related to simple possession of marijuana while it proceeds with its initiative to legalize the plant, according to Canada’s oldest advocate for the reform of cannabis laws.
