“The status quo is dysfunctional. It doesn’t work. We saw that in the 20s and 30s with prohibition. It’s an idea that’s just is not effective.
We are of the view that a regulatory and taxation regime is likely to be more effective in keeping marijuana out of the hands of young people.
I think Canadians will, by and large, rally to this issue. They will be supportive of this issue and see this as a good idea for moving forward.
This proposal is one where the leader has been very clear, and the party was very clear before that in adopting a resolution at the convention in Vancouver in January 2011.”
